Our vision

A transformation in how the sector communicates its value and impact

Two thirds of UK adults learn about the world through social media every week. Yet, Civil Society still communicates its value through policy reports, print media, and word of mouth. Horizon aims to change this by harnessing the platforms used by everyday people.

A major force in shaping public opinion and conversation

AI, Climate change, Housing, Health, Education, Economy. These topics are reshaping or have been reshaped by everyone except the people working directly or in solidarity with communities. Horizon imagines a world where the experiences of everyday people are at the forefront of public discourse.

Greater investment in social and economic change

Civil Society is going through a monumental crisis of underinvestment. Two in five charities spend more than they earn, public donations have dropped, and public sector contracts are increasingly sparse. Horizon aims to reinvigorate public interest in a thriving Third Sector.

Our editorial principles

Localism

Our scope is broad because Civil Society is equally so. Horizon will always be rooted in communities and experiences of local people.

Liberalism

Horizon is non-partisan and welcomes ideas and beliefs from across the political spectrum. Its liberal stance is rooted in justice and freedom, whilst recognising that this can be threatened by poverty and inequality.

Humanism

Modern human life is increasingly dominated by tech and non-sentient beings. Whilst they improve efficiency, they have led to increased loneliness, division, and dissociation. Horizon centres the experiences of biological humans recognising their emotions and physiology as critical to our understanding of the world.

Solidarity

In traditional media, communities are reported on, not in collaboration with. Horizon acts as a partner with Civil Society, highlighting its stories whilst retaining a critical lens.

The publication

Our flagship product. A publication that tackles society's biggest issues through the lens of the Third Sector. More than just a newspaper, it aims to reimagine how we consume media as not just readers of content, but participants of a community.
